My medical career
After my early childhood in the province of Salzburg, I have been living in Vienna since I was seven years old. My passion for surgery was awakened so early on in no small part through my father, MR Prim. Dr. Hector Freitas, surgeon. Through regular participation in his department at Göttlicher Heiland Hospital and in his private surgery, I was able to gain important experience in surgery, as well as in the personal and cordial handling of patients.
After obtaining a doctorate in medicine at the University of Vienna, I completed my training as a surgeon mainly in the Barmherzigen Schwestern Hospital under the direction of Prof. Dr. Max Wunderlich. During my training I was also posted at the Göttlicher Heiland Hospital, the Wilhelminenspital, the Lorenz-Böhler Emergency Hospital, as well as State Hospital Feldkirch and State Hospital Hohenems.
For further specialisation, I spent about a year at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen (Switzerland) in the internationally renowned department of Prof. Dr. Jochen Lange.
Since autumn 2008, I have been working as a senior physician in hospitals of the Vinzenz Group, and as an attending physician in the Wiener Privatklinik. I am proud to have been operating since 2010, also in my father’s former department, now headed by Prim. Dr. Viktor Grablowitz.
After many years of intensive work on diseases of the intestine and rectum, in 2010 I obtained the European specialist diploma in coloproctology (intestinal and rectal medicine). This enabled me to certify my specialty at the European level.
From 2011 to 2015, I was an Austrian envoy to the UEMS (Association of Medical Specialists in Europe), Coloproctology Division.
